“Human beings have the advantage that through pain they are able to experience their I, their ego, but are excluded from feeling the pain of others. It is a great, though far off ideal, that not only the sick or injured feel the pain, but that others feel it just as acutely, as if it were their own. This is really the Christ Ideal; and in these times it is good to recall this Ideal.” Rudolf Steiner August 14, 1914
